Step-by-Step DIY Fabric Basket Tutorial
1. Measure and Cut Your Fabric
Decide on the size of your basket. For a medium-sized basket, cut two rectangles of fabric (one for the outer layer, one for the lining) measuring 18x12 inches. Cut two pieces of interfacing to the same size for added structure.
2. Fuse the Interfacing
Iron the interfacing onto the wrong side of your outer fabric piece. This will give your basket stability.
3. Sew the Side Seams
Fold the fabric in half with the right sides together, then sew along the side and bottom edges, leaving the top open.
4. Box the Corners
To create a flat base, pinch the corner seams and sew across to form a triangle before trimming excess fabric.
5. Attach the Lining
Repeat steps 3 and 4 with your lining fabric, but leave a small gap in the seam for turning later.
6. Assemble the Basket
Place the outer basket inside the lining (right sides together), then sew along the top edge. Turn the basket right side out through the gap in the lining. Stitch the gap closed.
